To Victoria

This referring to Victoria BC in Canada and a play on words "victory" written during the Viet Nam war before I met Jesus and when I was ready to leave the USA and go to Canada with friends..
------------------------------------------------
Passive and unresponding, I turned away ignoring.
Soon there was no way left to turn.
Apple pie, motherhood and THE AMERICAN WAY Surrounded and engulfed me.
Under the strain of seeing too much
But I've pulled the shades
Over the shattered fragments
Of the eyes into my mind for too long.
A time to act and I MUST!
"For the people, by the people, of the people."
Letters to congressmen; "I'm aware, concerned, frightened,
What can I do?"
No reply.
Awareness grows and with it frustration.
We get promises backed by lies,
Boys dying for peace
Only it's spelled
SUPER-U.S.-CAPITALIST-POWERTRIP,
Not (a peace symbol was drawn here)
We get Vietnamization
Followed by the discovery of
American boys in Laos
In Vietnamese uniforms.
So, petitions, meetings, assemblies, marches
Democracy, do you have ears which will not hear?
Your wrongs are pushing now to crush my soul,
I have but few choices left:
Smash back before I am pulverized
Crumble your foundations
Kill your alleged proponents
Perpetuate your atrocities?
Yes, yes, because this time
It is in the name of
TRUTH, HONESTY and GOOD.. peace????
No, that would be your ultimate victory
Because then I too would become a polluter, a murderer, a raper of humanity
God, what then is the answer?
So simple! I laugh hysterically that I Shouldn't have seen it before.
Beautiful, crazy, fantastic!!!
You'll never get my soul now
Because I refuse to eat any more apple pie.
P.S. I am not a Communist hippie drug freak woman's lib weatherman society drop out, I am simply very weary.
