Some Cold War Flashbacks

A Prayer
Save the infants of the world as it is today,
Their innocent minds comprehending not
The horrible future of mankind's ways
Save the youth, the child, the unaware tot.
Save all that know not their world's fate
And those who turn their backs on hate.
Save the truthful, the honest, the pure and kind,
Spare the new of spirit and the clean of mind.
On this ungodly earth of ours,
Burn, when fate decides to turn
And loose all her hellish powers.
Put those spared in a world anew.
Unmarked by war and clean in hue.
Test them and see if they could stand,
Or would they too fall to the Destiny of Man?
"1979"
Written in 1963 before I knew Jesus when I was 16, in the middle of the Cold War)
They will never learn
Their interests lie in science
But for the sole purpose of competition.
Build it bigger and better.
Make it more mechanized.
Get it greater and greater.
'Til there's no way to expand.
Make ultimates to top all ultimates.
Then what happens?
As the smoke clears, a once beautiful earth is replaced.
A charred ball remains in the heavens
As a reminder of ultimate "progress".
Destruction
The moon glides over the forgotten plain,
Whose earth is cracked from lack of rain.
The moon is haunted with growing despair
While looking for life that's nevermore there.
The moon glides over the forgotten plain
Where dead civilization now is lain,
Gazing at destruction from his perch on high,
Moon waits for dawn which long ago did die.
The moon glides over the forbidden plain,
Whose earth shall nevermore see rain;
The moon gazes long from his stance on high
At useless earth scattered in sky.
