Nature's Blanket
The sky is protection
Around the earth,
Like a blanket around a baby
Soon after birth.
It wraps us in blue
And smiles upon us by day,
At twilight the sun winks
And daylight fades away.
And diamonds made of star,
Has an ageless beauty
Which nothing can mar.
The sky was there before us,
It'll be there when we go,
What were the skies BEFORE?
Only God does know!
Life
It's not easy,
That no one can say.
There are rocks
And stumbling blocks
In every passageway,
Don't ever give up,
It's not hopeless,
That attitude won't do!
Remember that each day
Is a road unmarked and new.
Unsettled
My moving from place to place
Does not indicate that I am looking for anything
Perhaps only that I haven't found it yet
Life's Toy
Life toys with you and plays with you,
Dabbles you here and there.
Life teases you and taunts you,
She doesn't seem to care.
You're one of her unpolished paintings,
The job she left half done.
Not complete like the others,
But a toy made for fun.
She made you in a day of boredom,
Then cast you aside,
Along with the other unfinished lives
Like a drop in the tide.
She looks at you now and then,
Plays with you at her leisure
Those moments few and far between
Are the ones you'll have to treasure.
Those precious few become worthwhile,
Little instances, then gone they'll be.
I know that all too well,
Because life also plays with me.
To My Senior English Teacher
Poetry isn't poetry we're told
'Less restricted by beat and measure
Guess a poet I'll never be
As free expression I treasure.
Without iams, troches and such
Writing could be such a pleasure
Why don't those strict know-it-alls
Produce iams at THEIR leisure?
Then all the rest of us
Who write for self expression
Could write the way we want to write
And create a new impression!

Marijo! Your poetry is beautiful, insightful, deeply moving and just plain great reading. I'm a fan!!!GrammyThanks for your kind words!- these were written back in the 60s - when I was a teen whenever I'd get to feeling low I'd write.... there are also more recent ones on this site. Marijo
