Prayer for a Spouse Devotional

Lord Jesus, please help us to cherish each other with Your kind of love to respect and delight in and honor each other. Let us put an end to the "digs" and unkindnesses.
Help us to build up and not destroy. Unify us in "one flesh" with Your Spirit, Lord God. Help us, I pray!
Help my heart to repent. I don't want to be selfish, proud or reacting in a nasty, defensive way. I want to get rid of "high places" and totally yield to You in ALL areas of my life.
1 Peter 3:7
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. (NIV)
Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (NIV)
Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (NIV)
Matthew 19:5
and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? (NIV)
Mark 10:8
and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. (NIV)

I was not surprised to see Phil 2:3 here and would add verse 4 to it: "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." In place of the word 'interests' my pastor recently suggested inserting any word, finances, health, fun, well-being, etc. Thanks for sharing your heart.Good idea - will hop to it right now! Thanks and always appreciate critiques or suggestions, Lorrie! Marijo
Still good when it comes up on Readers' Club! I like the change you made. That has become one of my favorite passages of scripture and one I unfortunately struggle with.Yah, especially when the interest of others runs contraty to our interests - I hear you! Thanks for doing "double duty" here.Marijo

God Bless and may He live in your heart forever.SandraWell.... thanks for your kind words, Sandra, I just returned from a wonderful 3 day ladies retreat - The Lord was there, big time. the ladies were open and transparent and CHANGED....
