Iris Flags Scent Take Me Back

Purple iris fields, flags waving
Bearded orange, lavender and yellow
Smelling of springtime now released
To blow across my mind, mellow
Then have flipped the pages
Bringing memories of years
Magical movement of my life
Calendar fast forward mirrors
Breathing deep of iris grape
With springtime growth anew
Living in that breath of space
While gazing at perfect hue
And I wonder, oh, I wonder
At the creator's hand
As He fashioned unique iris
With its furry, bearded band
Grape kool aid scented flowers
Trigger recall of past days
Grandparents in our lives then
Now fading in distanced haze
Their delicate and spotted hands
Reaching out, me, to touch
The little one at their side
Who misses them now so much
Each time I smell iris scent
Memories those petals renew
Recall comes so quickly
Of my loves who've gone to You.
Purple iris fields of flags
Will always captivate me
A delicate thing of beauty
Until Your face I see.

Marijo. It is beautiful! You have painted a beautiful story. Well-written and it flowed. Keep on writing and I will keep on reading. Blessings. ~Nenita~Thanks - this is actually one I wrote just this past week. With the topic purple.I wrote my first poem that was published when I was 4 (think my mom had a bunch to do with that!) I do not get into types of poems - much to the dismay of many - I just write my heart. Thanks for reading! Marijo
