Psalm 6 (New King James Version)
1 O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
This verse is a possible rule of thumb for disciplining children or for interpersonal relationships. The Lord is righteous, therefore, He must have just reason to be angry with the Psalmist
*Humble approach, confessing the truth “I am weak" for my body is “trembling, fearful, “thrust out" (Strong’s)
3 My *soul also is greatly troubled; but You, O LORD—how long?
*His living part (breathing)
4 Return, O LORD, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!
Don’t save me because of me but because you are merciful
5 For in death there is no remembrance of You; in the grave who will give You thanks?
If I am dead I cannot praise, worship or fellowship with Thee
6 I am weary with my groaning; all night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears.
Was he crying out in prayer or just crying?
7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows old because of all my enemies.
His enemies wear him out….
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
Assurance
9 The LORD has heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
Confidence in God’s hearing and receiving his prayer
10 Let all my enemies be *ashamed and greatly troubled; let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.
*confounded, confused, delayed, dry, ashamed (Strong’s) without God they will be *ashamed, etc.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, your Word is so rich and full. May I soak in it until I understand. May your Holy Spirit help me see things that never jumped off the pages before but do now. Thank you for inspiring the writers across the miles and over the years. And it still comes alive for me, today! AMEN
