Love Living Where We Live
I once told my hubby that I could live anywhere so long as he is there. That’s still true and we have lived in many an interesting accommodation since being “hitched” over 26 years ago. Tents, rooms in Youth With a Mission hotel-dorm, with parents and friends, in apartments, condos, a geriatric RV and several homes we built together. Those abodes found themselves in Texas, Oregon, California and Colorado.
Somewhere in there the Lord began talking to me about Colorado. I fought for a week and then gave in. Oh, my, what a most incredible blessing. We have been here 18 years and I totally love it. Snow evaporates at about 17 degrees and you can run around is simply a sweatshirt. The summers? NO humidity and at our house in the mountain meadow we had a high of 76 this summer. Most days were in the 60s and evenings in the 40-50s. When we finally got some rain (no humidity means little precip) those wild flowers simply outdid themselves, yellows, oranges, purples and lavenders all over the yard.
Toss in some mountain blue birds along with the humming birds, swallows, hawks and eagles , you simply can’t lose. Then there are the mama deer with their babies, those tiny spotted babies and a bit bigger are the newborn elk. I forgot to mention prong horns, fox, coyotes, porcupines, bob cats and mountain lions beside the bear cubs.
We are totally blessed to be living right where we are and I hope we can stay and stay in this majestic mountain place because I’m in love.

Top-level comments on this article: (6 total)Wow! So, beautiful and so well-written. I could see every single domicile you described. Great article! :Dthanks Melissa - he is a builder and we have moved 15 times in 26 years - hope this is the last one - I want to build with him again but don't want to do the battle of the boxes!
Wow Marijo. You described the climate perfectly and Colorado is one of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion, but I just can't get past those memories of shoveling snow. :-) Thanks for sharing your mountain meadow! We didn't even get the plow out last year we had so little. the most at one time was 4.5 inches. Pray and see if the Lord wouldn't allow you guys to join us in the mountain meadow! Lots of places for a good price now but maybe not as good as Texas 9we lived there after we married in 1985 - Van and Tyler area)
Haha - Danny would go nuts in the mountains! He is an inside type of guy so where we are is perfect.INSIDE I cannot imagine GRINHahahahahaha - I know!!
We've already talked about your beautiful life in Colorado and I've posted some of your gorgeous pictures on my website's Picture It. They're still posted. I cannot imagine having snow on the ground and running around in a sweatshirt. I could tolerate snow (maybe) if it didn't feel so darn cold. Nice article, as always, Marijo and you've described such a lovely homestead.I was raised in Minnesota and FROZE (humidity) because of the sun and dryness here it works! Layers is the dress code for Colorado - unless there is wind and then you freeze (see Chocolate Mud Ice Queen Lady that I wrote about a terrible hike....)Oh yes - wanted to tell you how pretty your picture is too. You could easily make your own calendar (at least for friends and family) with your lovely photos.
13 miles away from Guffey. Wow the traffic in Guffey is the "travelling through" type. The wife and I come through that way on our way to points west. And, we also go to Canon City through different angles of approach. We are pretty well neighbors!I just commented on your article about Denver and said something like that "neighbors" comment. We LOVE it here! (And have lived in Monument and Colorado Springs too but the TRAFFIC, people, crime etc. I come into CS about twice a month now.)
The pictures are beautiful, and I enjoyed the article.
Dr. BFall is coming - burrrr.....but it surely is pretty!
